Formal Language Requirement for Canadian Citizenship Being Proposed
A formal language requirement for Canadian citizenship is being proposed.
Today, the government proposed that people aged 18 to 54 be required to pass a language test in order to become Canadian citizens. The proposal also allows for other ways to show language skills such as by showing that a person has been educated or taken courses in the medium of English or French. The evidence of language skills that was used for the immigration process can be re-used for citizenship. Usually, by the time the proposal reaches this stage, it will become law. Details are in Canada Gazette.
